In terms of project development and implementation we prefer to adopt a methodology of iterative prototyping. We like to get the project team and super users involved in the project and the product as early as possible.
Normally we prefer to examine or create process maps of the current business processes and how they are being supported by the IT solution. We then work with the business to understand the business plan for the next few years (between 3 & 5) and enhance the processes to reflect the future environment.
We then familiarise the project team with the standard version of the product being implemented. Together, we identify areas where the product needs enhancement and create "System Change Requests" which are agreed with the users. These enhancements are then developed and incorporated into the test system, along with data migrated from all available sources.
Once the data and enhanced versions of the product are available, we enter User Acceptance testing, where any unforeseen problems may show themselves. Once these are fixed and re-tested we are then in a position to move towards live running.
We tailor our project management methdology to your project. We are certainly not in the business of overdoing the methodology or the documentation of any project, but we do firmly believe in adopting a methodology, however simple, to ensure the success of a project.
We take the best of proven methodologies like PRINCE2 or SUMMIT-D and apply them appropriately.
In our view, every project must have a budget, stakeholders, resources, a project plan and a project manager. As a minimum, probably a regular review with the sponsors, a dynamically updated Project plan and a weekly one page status report would suffice. Ideally, a Project Initiation document or Project Charter would be developed at the start of the project.
For organisations where a given methodology is prescribed, or where there is a controlled environment, we will adapt to the methodology required.
